LLN Holds Social Audit and Future Planning Sharing Meeting at Tokha Municipality

 

On 24 September 2025, Legal Literacy Nepal (LLN) organized a sharing meeting on “Social Audit of FY 2081/82 and Future Planning” at Tokha Municipality. The program brought together 35 participants, including the Mayor, Ward Chair, head teachers, teachers, students, School Management Committee (SMC) members, and guardians.

At the event, Mr. Baburam Gautam, Head of the Education, Youth, and Sports Department of Tokha Municipality, presented LLN’s initiatives and achievements over the past year. He highlighted that LLN has been working tirelessly to promote child protection, particularly through efforts to end corporal punishment in schools, raise awareness on children’s rights and responsibilities, and train teachers and parents on non-violent, child-friendly teaching practices. He emphasized that these interventions are helping create safe learning environments and empower children to avoid harmful influences while growing into responsible individuals.

Looking ahead, LLN’s future plans, which include:

  • Introducing Child Safeguarding Policies in schools.

  • Training teachers, SMCs, guardians, and students on positive discipline and non-violence.

  • Providing medico-legal documentation training and basic psychosocial counseling skills to school nurses.

Following the presentation, participants offered feedback and suggestions. Mayor Prakash Adhikari commended LLN’s efforts and expressed the municipality’s commitment to collaborate further, noting that segregated child-related data would strengthen local planning. Teachers, students, and representatives also recommended expanding activities to include private schools, child clubs, and community-level outreach. Suggestions were also made to focus more on cyber safety, juvenile justice awareness, and direct parent engagement to reinforce child protection.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment between Tokha Municipality and LLN to continue working together to ensure that every child grows up in a safe, nurturing, and rights-respecting environment.
