LLN Conducts Child Rights and Positive Discipline Awareness Program in Tokha

Tokha, Kathmandu | 14 December 2025: In coordination with Tokha Municipality, Legal Literacy – Nepal (LLN) successfully organized an awareness and interaction program on child rights and positive discipline on 14 December 2025, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, at Ward No. 9, Tokha Municipality. The program brought together 30 participants, including teachers, guardians, Municipality Children's Network with the aim of promoting violence-free, child-friendly environments at home and in schools.

The program was conducted in two interactive sessions.
The first session focused on ending corporal punishment and promoting respectful behavior towards children. Participants discussed practical ways to create a child-friendly environment both at home and in educational settings. The session also highlighted how corporal punishment negatively affects child psychology, undermines children’s learning attitudes, and instills fear, stress, and negative thoughts, ultimately hampering their overall development.

The second session centered on the legal framework for child protection, including key provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and Nepal’s Children’s Act, 2075. Participants were informed about the various rights guaranteed to children under national and international law, as well as the legal prohibition of different forms of harm and violence against children.

Additionally, the session discussed Tokha Municipality’s initiatives to be declared a Child-Friendly Municipality. Participants were oriented on the 51 indicators that must be fulfilled to achieve this status, emphasizing the shared responsibility of local government, schools, families, and the community in safeguarding children’s rights.

Legal Literacy – Nepal remains committed to raising awareness, strengthening legal literacy, and working collaboratively with local governments and communities to ensure a safe, respectful, and child-friendly environment for every child.
