LLN Organized Three-Day Training of Trainers on Child Rights and Safeguarding for Tokha Nagar Bal Sanjal
Legal Literacy – Nepal (LLN) successfully organized a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on “Children in Child Protection: Child Rights and Safeguarding” for 19 members of the Tokha Nagar Bal Sanjal (Tokha Municipality Children Network) from 30 and 31 January and 1 February 2026 at the Social Work Institute (SWI), Nakhu, Lalitpur.
The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of children network members to promote child rights, prevent violence against children, and contribute to creating safe and child-friendly environments in schools and communities within Tokha Municipality. The sessions were conducted using a participatory, child-centered, and practice-oriented approach, ensuring active engagement of all participants throughout the program.
The training covered key issues related to child protection and safeguarding, with particular emphasis on ending corporal punishment, understanding children’s rights, and applying national and international legal frameworks, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Constitution of Nepal, and the Children Act, 2075. Participants were also oriented on the Tokha Municipality School Children Safeguarding Policy, focusing on its purpose, key provisions, and the roles and responsibilities of children networks in safeguarding children.
In addition, the training highlighted the role of Tokha Nagar Bal Sanjal in advocacy, awareness-raising, peer support, and coordination with schools and local authorities. Interactive sessions, group work, games, and practical exercises were used to enhance understanding of child abuse prevention, appropriate responses to child protection concerns, and the importance of acting in the best interest of the child.
The training also focused on building facilitation and presentation skills, enabling participants to act as peer educators and trainers. As part of the program, participants prepared school-level safeguarding action plans and discussed ways to conduct awareness sessions for children studying in schools across Tokha Municipality.
LLN believes that empowering children and adolescents as active stakeholders in child protection is essential for building safe, inclusive, and child-friendly communities, and this Training of Trainers marks an important step toward strengthening child-led initiatives in Tokha Municipality.
The programme was supported by DKA Austria.
