Awareness Raising on Child Rights and Safeguarding
A three-member team of Tokha Nagar Baal Sanjal, formed by Legal Literacy - Nepal (LLN) during a three-day Training of Trainers on “Children in Child Protection: Child Rights and Safeguarding,” conducted a child awareness program titled “Children and Their Rights” on 5 February 2026 (2082 Magh 22) at Mount Radiant School, Manamaiju, Kathmandu. The program targeted students of class 6 and 7 with the aim of strengthening their understanding of child rights, child-related laws, leadership, and personal safety. A total of 42 students (16 boys and 26 girls) participated in the awareness raising program.
The first session was facilitated by Pradip Thakur, a member of Tokha Nagar Baal Sanjal, and focused on the importance of child-related laws and the reasons such laws are necessary to protect children. Through interactive discussions, students were introduced to basic legal concepts related to children’s rights.
The second session, led by Asal Srishna Dahal, covered children’s rights and responsibilities, leadership development, and the value of participation. Interactive activities and learning games were used to keep students engaged, resulting in active and enthusiastic participation.
The third session was facilitated by Kusim Neupane and addressed personal safety, including good touch, bad touch, and confusing touch. The topic was explained in a child-friendly manner to ensure clarity and comfort. Some students shared concerns related to confusing touch, and the facilitation team responded sensitively, guiding them toward safe and appropriate reporting mechanisms.
Overall, the program increased students’ awareness of child rights and laws, improved their understanding of personal safety, and encouraged open participation. The initiative was successful and impactful, reinforcing the importance of continued child rights awareness programs to promote a safe and supportive learning environment.
