LLN Conducts Legal Awareness Session on Peer Violence at Shree Jalupa Secondary School

On 2 June, Legal Literacy Nepal (LLN) organized an orientation and legal awareness session on peer violence for Grade 10 students at Shree Jalupa Secondary School in Tokha Municipality. The program was attended by 47 students.

During the session, Om Prakash Sen Thakuri introduced the concept of peer violence, discussing its various forms, causes, and effects on children’s well-being and development. He also presented key findings from previous studies and surveys conducted in Nepal, highlighting the prevalence of bullying and other forms of violence among peers, as well as their impact on students’ education and mental health.

The orientation included discussions on the legal protections available to children under Nepalese law. Students were informed about relevant provisions of the Constitution of Nepal and the Act Relating to Children, 2075 (2018), which safeguard children from all forms of violence and abuse. The session also explained the legal responsibilities and potential consequences associated with acts of violence against children.

The primary objective of the program was to enhance students’ understanding of peer violence, encourage positive and respectful interactions among classmates, and promote reporting and help-seeking behaviours when incidents of violence occur. The session was highly interactive, providing students with opportunities to ask questions, share experiences, and engage in discussions about creating a safe and supportive school environment.
