LLN Organizes Legal Awareness Program on Peer Violence at Shree Jhor Mahankal Secondary School
On 4 June, Legal Literacy Nepal (LLN) conducted a legal awareness and orientation program on peer violence for Grade 9 students at Shree Jhor Mahankal Secondary School in Tokha Municipality. The session was attended by 23 students.
During the program, Om Prakash Sen Thakuri provided an overview of peer violence, explaining its different forms and the ways it can affect children's physical, emotional, and educational well-being. Drawing on findings from studies conducted in Nepal, he discussed the prevalence of bullying and other forms of peer abuse and highlighted their impact on students and the broader school community.
The session also focused on the legal rights of children and the protections available under Nepalese law. Participants were introduced to key provisions of the Constitution of Nepal and the Act Relating to Children, 2075 (2018), which guarantee children’s right to protection from violence and abuse. Students further learned about legal accountability and the consequences associated with acts of violence against children.
The awareness program aimed to enhance students’ understanding of peer violence, encourage respectful and supportive relationships among classmates, and promote the reporting of incidents when they occur. Through interactive discussions and a question-and-answer session, students actively explored strategies for fostering a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environment.
