LLN Conducts Legal Awareness Class on Child Rights and Protection at Nirmal Batika Academy
Legal Literacy Nepal (LLN) conducted a legal awareness class on child rights and child protection at Nirmal Batika Academy with the aim of strengthening students’ knowledge of their rights and fostering a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly educational environment.
A total of 26 students participated in the session, which was facilitated by Advocate Om Prakash Sen Thakuri, Executive Director of Legal Literacy Nepal. The participants were oriented on the rights of children as guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal, 2072, the Act Relating to Children, 2075, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The session highlighted key child rights principles, including the rights to survival, development, protection, participation, education, and freedom from discrimination.
The program also focused on important child protection issues such as violence, abuse, neglect, bullying, and exploitation. Students were informed about the legal consequences of crimes against children and the relevant punishment provisions under the National Criminal Code, 2074. Special emphasis was placed on recognizing harmful behaviors, understanding available reporting and support mechanisms, and encouraging children to seek assistance from trusted adults, teachers, and relevant authorities whenever their rights are threatened or violated.
