Legal Literacy - Nepal Organized Orientation Program for School Children
On the occasion of 16-Day Activism and International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25th Nov), Legal Literacy - Nepal organized an orientation program for school children on gender and violence including corporal punishment of children. The program was organized in the meeting hall of Ward No: 3, Tokha Municipality 25 November 2023 in which 36 students from 3 community schools of Tokha Municipality were participated. In the program, children were made aware about different forms of violence against children, traditional practice of corporal punishment at home and schools, different forms and reasons of gender based violence against girl child and legal provisions to stop violence against children. The children were made aware about 16 days campaign against gender based violence, purpose and need of campaign. In the program, laws on child rights and duties of children, parents and teachers were discussed. The data on corporal punishment of children collected by Legal Literacy - Nepal from different districts of Nepal was presented. The children were made aware about where and how to contact if they experience or witness violence.
At the end of the program, the participants vowed, "I will not do violence, I will not tolerate violence and I will raise voice against violence."
