LLN Conducts Legal Awareness Class on Child Rights and Protection at Basundhara National Academy

Legal Literacy Nepal (LLN) conducted a legal awareness class on child rights and child protection at Basundhara National Academy with the objective of enhancing students’ understanding of their rights and promoting a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environment.

A total of 24 students participated in the session, which was facilitated by Advocate Om Prakash Sen Thakuri, Executive Director of Legal Literacy Nepal. During the program, students were oriented on the rights guaranteed to children under the Constitution of Nepal, 2072, the Act Relating to Children, 2075, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The session covered key child rights principles, including the rights to survival, development, protection, participation, education, and freedom from discrimination.

The class also addressed major child protection concerns such as violence, abuse, neglect, bullying, and exploitation. Participants were informed about the legal provisions relating to crimes against children and the punishments prescribed under the National Criminal Code, 2074. Emphasis was placed on recognizing harmful behaviors, understanding child protection mechanisms, and seeking support from trusted adults, teachers, and relevant authorities whenever children’s rights are violated.

Furthermore, students were made aware of available reporting mechanisms and support services for children facing different forms of abuse, violence, or other emergency situations. The session provided practical guidance on how and where to report incidents, access assistance, and ensure their safety and well-being. Through interactive discussions and participation, students gained a better understanding of their rights and the importance of speaking up against violations.

LLN remains committed to promoting legal literacy, child rights awareness, and child protection through educational outreach programs in schools and communities across Nepal.
