LLN Conducts Legal Awareness Class on Peer Violence and Child Protection at Asia Pacific School

Legal Literacy Nepal (LLN) conducted a legal awareness class on peer violence and child protection at Asia Pacific School with the aim of promoting a safe, respectful, and violence-free learning environment for students.

The session was facilitated by Advocate Om Prakash Sen Thakuri, Executive Director of Legal Literacy Nepal, who provided an orientation on the concept of peer violence, its various forms, common signs and symptoms, and its short- and long-term impacts on both victims and perpetrators. Students were also informed about national laws relating to violence against children and the legal consequences associated with acts of violence and abuse.

A total of 64 students from Grade 9 participated in the program. The orientation highlighted the importance of mutual respect, empathy, positive behavior, and peaceful conflict resolution among peers. Participants were encouraged to identify and challenge harmful behaviors such as bullying, harassment, intimidation, social exclusion, and other forms of peer violence that can adversely affect children's education, mental health, self-esteem, and overall well-being.

Furthermore, students were made aware of available reporting mechanisms and support services for children facing abuse, violence, bullying, or other emergency situations. Practical guidance was provided on how and where to report incidents, seek assistance from trusted adults and authorities, and access protection and support services when their rights are violated.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which students actively engaged with the facilitator and discussed various child rights and protection issues. Through meaningful participation and dialogue, students gained a deeper understanding of their rights and responsibilities, as well as the importance of speaking out against violence and supporting peers who may be at risk.

LLN remains committed to promoting legal literacy, child rights awareness, and child protection through educational outreach programs in schools and communities across Nepal.
