LLN Conducts Legal Awareness Class on Child Protection at Api School

Legal Literacy Nepal (LLN) conducted a legal awareness class on peer violence and child protection at Api School with the aim of promoting a safe, respectful, and violence-free learning environment for students.

The session was facilitated by Advocate Om Prakash Sen Thakuri, Executive Director of Legal Literacy Nepal, who provided an orientation on the concept of peer violence, its various forms, common signs and symptoms, and its short- and long-term impacts on both victims and perpetrators. Students were also informed about Nepal's legal provisions relating to violence against children and the legal consequences of engaging in acts of violence, bullying, and abuse.

A total of 93 students from Grade 10 participated in the program. The orientation emphasized the importance of mutual respect, empathy, positive behavior, and peaceful conflict resolution among peers. Students were encouraged to recognize and challenge harmful behaviors such as bullying, harassment, intimidation, social exclusion, cyberbullying, and other forms of peer violence that can negatively affect children's education, mental health, self-esteem, and overall well-being.

Furthermore, participants were informed about available reporting mechanisms and support services for children experiencing abuse, violence, bullying, or other emergency situations. Practical guidance was provided on how and where to report incidents, seek support from trusted adults, teachers, parents, and relevant authorities, and access protection services whenever their rights are violated.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which students actively engaged with the facilitator by raising questions and sharing their perspectives on child rights and protection issues. Through meaningful discussions and active participation, students gained a deeper understanding of their rights and responsibilities, the importance of fostering respectful relationships, and the need to speak out against violence while supporting peers who may be at risk.

Legal Literacy Nepal remains committed to promoting legal literacy, child rights awareness, and child protection through educational outreach programs that empower children to understand, exercise, and protect their rights while contributing to safer and more inclusive schools and communities across Nepal.
