LLN Reaches 920 Students Through Peer Violence and Child Protection Awareness Classes in Tokha Municipality
Legal Literacy Nepal (LLN) successfully conducted a series of legal awareness classes on Peer Violence and Child Protection in collaboration with schools and the Nagar Bal Sanjal of Tokha Municipality. The program was implemented in 16 schools, including eight government and eight private schools, as well as among members of the Tokha Nagar Bal Sanjal, from June 2 to June 30.
The awareness sessions were facilitated by Advocate Om Prakash Sen Thakuri, Executive Director of Legal Literacy Nepal. During the classes, students were introduced to the concept of peer violence, its various forms, warning signs, causes, and the physical, psychological, and educational impacts it can have on both victims and perpetrators. Participants also learned about Nepal’s legal provisions related to child protection and the legal consequences of bullying, violence, and abuse against children.
A total of 920 students from Grades 6 to 10 participated in the program. The sessions emphasized the importance of empathy, mutual respect, inclusion, and non-violent conflict resolution. Students were encouraged to identify and challenge harmful behaviors such as bullying, harassment, intimidation, social exclusion, and cyberbullying that undermine children's safety and well-being.
The program also informed participants about child-friendly reporting mechanisms and support services available for children facing violence, abuse, or other protection concerns. Practical guidance was provided on how to seek assistance from trusted adults, teachers, parents, and relevant authorities when their rights are violated.
The sessions concluded with interactive discussions and question-and-answer segments, where students actively shared their views on child rights, responsibilities, and strategies for creating safer school environments. The discussions reinforced the importance of speaking out against violence, supporting peers in need, and fostering a culture of respect and inclusion within schools.
Through this initiative, Legal Literacy Nepal reaffirmed its commitment to promoting legal literacy, child rights awareness, and child protection. The organization continues to work towards empowering children with knowledge and skills that enable them to protect their rights and contribute to building safer and more inclusive communities.
