Orientation Program on "The Role of Parents in Prevention of Violence against Children" Organized

 

16 December 2023, Kathmandu: Legal Literacy - Nepal organized an orientation program for 10 parents from community schools of Tokha Municipality in the meeting hall of Ward No:3, Tokha on 16 December 2023. In the program, the parents were oriented on laws that protect the rights of children. They were made aware that corporal punishment of children is prohibited by law and it is a criminal offence in Nepal since 2015. If corporal punishment is inflicted on children whether its parents, elders or school teacher, they could be prosecuted and fined up-to one lakh rupees and sentenced to jail for up-to 5 years.

Likewise, they were made aware about different forms of violence against children at home, schools and community and how to protect children from harms at homes, schools and society. Likewise, they were oriented on online violence against children including misuse of photographs, video and blackmailing. They were oriented on different techniques to keep children safe from online violence or potential harms. They were also oriented on positive parenting for the protection of children from any forms of harms.

The program was organized in coordination with Tokha Municipality and supported by DKA Austria.
