LLN Organized Orientation Program on "The Role of Teachers in Preventing Violence against Children"

23 December 2023, Kathmandu: Legal Literacy - Nepal (LLN) organized an orientation program for teachers from community schools of Tokha Municipality in the meeting hall of Ward No: 3 of Tokha Municipality on 23 December 2023. In the program 21 Head Teachers and Teachers from 9 community schools of Tokha Municipality were participated. In the program, the participants were oriented on different forms of violence against children in schools and homes, laws prohibiting violence against children, preventive and corrective measures to avoid use of corporal punishment on children etc. The participants were presented the sample data collection of corporal punishment collected from 11 different districts of Nepal which has analyzed the situation of corporal punishment in the schools of Nepal, different forms of corporal punishment practiced in the community and organizational schools of Nepal and reasons for inflicting corporal punishment on children.  

After the interactive discussions, the participants were divided into 3 groups and were given three real cases studies with questions. The first case was related to the corporal punishment of a student, second case was related to a sexual violence by a teacher on a girl child and the third case was related to the illicit love affair between a male teacher and girl child and ignorance of parents about it. After group discussion, the participants presented their analysis and findings in the cases with suggestions.

The program was organized in coordination with Tokha Municipality and supported by DKA Austria.
